New Dubai Metro Route Now Open – Al Furjan To Jebel Ali – See Details

The new Dubai Metro route is now open to the elation of residents.

Opened to passengers at 10am on January 1, 2021, residents, in excitement, said they were elated with the new “red line” extension. They had relied only on Dubai buses and Dubai taxis to commute to the nearest metro station.

In 10 minutes and spending only AED4, these residents can commute from Al Furjan to Jebel Ali. It goes without saying that the Metro’s fare is cheap. Added to that is its relative convenience.

The new 15-kilometer-long extension christened “Route 2020” currently has four stations: Jebel Ali, The Gardens, Discovery Gardens and Al Furjan. Later this year, three more stations – Jumeirah Golf Estates, Dubai Investment Park and 2020 Expo — will be opened.

While the current stations aren’t the prettiest of sites, there is no doubt they are conveniently located within a short walk of shops, villas and apartments.

At a cost of about AED11 billion ($3bn), the extension to the Red Line is set to be a boon for the area and will eventually connect thousands of passengers to and from the Expo 2020 site.
