Designed to be an essential part of the Dubai transport network, the Dubai tram links Dubai Metro and the Palm Monorail running along Al Sufouh Road and Jumeirah Beach Road. The Dubai tram is safe and convenient tram to travel in. It is intended to convey 405 passengers. Powered by a ground-based electric supply system extending along the track, and thus obviating the need for catenary cables, it travels at the top speed of 50kph.
Using the service lends you access to Wi-Fi and mobile coverage. You enjoy the service of a Dedicated Tram Police. Should there be an emergency, you could easily get this across as there is an Emergency Call Box (ECB) in each train and station.
The tram claims to be the world’s first tramway that uses Platform Screen Doors in passenger stations fully aligned with the tram’s doors opening and shutting mechanism, providing maximum convenience, safety and security for passengers, and at the same time protecting the quality of the air-conditioning in the interior of both stations and carriages from external climatic conditions.
Like the Dubai Metro, the train boasts two exclusive categories of cabins or carriages for Gold Class tickets holders and for women and children. The Gold class is first class and boasts wide leather seats and panoramic views of the city.
For the extensive and possible unreserved convenience of passengers, the tram boasts contrasting tactile guidance path for the visually impaired, beeps with corresponding flashing light signals at the opening and closing of tram’s doors, dedicated spaces for wheelchair users, screens for the display of relevant information.
The tram uses two means to signal danger to people outside it, a bell and a horn. The bell is used as an alarm to people around, when the driver suspects they might be at risk. For example, as the tram approaches a junction in full speed, the driver may by virtue of the bell warn other road users that a tram is approaching. While the horn may be used when there’s an immediate risk; say, when a car is obstructing the tram’s road.
The Dubai tram covers 10.6 km serving 11 stations in about 42 minutes. The tram’s route loops around the Dubai Marina area and heads down to Al Sufouh area through following stations Jumeirah Beach Residence Tram Station 1, Jumeirah Beach Residence Tram Station 2, Jumeirah Lakes Towers, Dubai Marina Mall, Dubai Marina, Marina Towers, Mina Seyahi, Media City, Palm Jumeirah, Knowledge Village. With 11 trams operational, the maximum waiting time to get a tram is six (6) minutes.

Tickets
The acceptable fare payment method or ticket for the service of the Dubai tram is the Nol card. There are four types of Nol cards, the Nol silver, gold, blue card and the Nol red ticket. Please note that the Nol red is not a card but a paper and thus is not called a card but a ticket. For more requisite information on the Nol card, please kindly read this.
Fares
Your fare depends on the number of zones you travel. It is calculated at the end of your journey after which it will automatically be deducted from your e-purse. Below is a table of your fares traveling in the Dubai tram. It culminates in the Metro’s fares though.
Zones | Fares (AED) | |||
Silver Card | Gold Card | Personal Card | Red Ticket
Within one zone | 3 | 6 | 3 | 4 |
Two adjacent zones | 5 | 10 | 5 | 6 |
More than two zones | 7.5 | 15 | 7.5 | 8.5 |
During your journey you can make transfers across modes of transport — say, across the Bus and the tram — to cut cost. Below is a table of how it works:
Short trip (up to 3km) | Within one zone | Two adjacent zones | More than two zones
Max Journey Duration | 90 mins | 180 mins | 180 mins | 180 mins |
Max Transfers Allowed | 1 | 3 | 3 | 3 |
Note: The Transfer Rules apply to one-way journeys only. In this way, if you check out from a station and then check in at the same station, this will be considered a new journey (not a transfer).
Also, transferring across two modes of transport must be within 30 minutes. Do not neglect to check out of the mode of transport you’re transferring from and do not neglect to check in to the mode you’re transferring to. All you have to do for your journey to be regarded as one is to transfer successfully within 30 minutes.
When you park your car to hop on the Tram, parking becomes free in the multi-storied parking garage located on Sufouh Road at the foot of Palm Jumeirah. This parking service is called “Park and Ride”. The closest Dubai tram’s station to this parking space is that of Palm Jumeirah.
