Let’s briefly touch on COVID-19 and the Pfizer vaccine as this is useful.
Casually referred to as Coronavirus, COVID-19 or SARS-CoV-2 is a contagious and virulent virus, with effects on infected persons varying from mild to severe symptoms. Older adults, and people with underlying medical problems like heart diseases, diabetes, chronic lung diseases, kidney diseases, liver diseases and cancer are more likely to develop serious illnesses.
The Pfizer-BioNtech COVID-19 vaccine is, as its name shows, a COVID-19 vaccine manufactured by Pfizer, Inc., and BioNTech. The mRNA-type vaccine is marketed under the brand name Comirnaty; hence, it’s also referred to as “Comirnaty COVID-19 mRNA vaccine”.

Dubai and the UAE, in line with CDC.gov, require 2 shots (21 days apart) of this vaccine. CDC.gov advises moderately to severely immunocompromised people to get an additional shot (a third dose) at least 28 days after their second shot. Some groups of people (say those at risk of complications) are recommended, in the UAE, to get a booster shot at least 6 months after getting their second shots.
The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is approved by U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and W.H.O. It’s the first that received emergency use validation from WHO. COVID-19 vaccines, however, are not full-proof. They are expected to reduce the possibility of COVID-19 infection, thereby protecting people from possible infection as well as from complications if infected. With this, it is expected that vaccination will protect communities from the spread of the virus. In this way, vaccinated people are still advised to continue observing COVID-19 preventive measures.
