Urban Outfitters in The Dubai Mall: Buy Clothing and Homewares etc

Urban Outfitters, a clothing and homeware shop, is now one of the retail outlets in The Dubai Mall. This presence has been anticipated since 2018. In May 2019, the talk on the opening of this American-born lifestyle brand in Dubai again saw a surge. Eventually, on 5th of September 2019, they finally launched and had their debut in Dubai.

What Can I Buy at Urban Outfitters in Dubai?

Urban Outfitters’ merchandise include men’s and women’s apparel and homewares. And the retailers aim to appeal and be relevant to the region given it characteristics. In the words of Stefan Laban, global head of Urban Outfitters, “Every single one of our stores is unique. We believe that it is key to make stores authentic to the region they are in and make a connection with the community.”

That notwithstanding, the following are what to expect in the 10,000-square-meter Dubai Store.

  • Women: Dresses + Rompers, Tops, Jackets, Bottoms, Intimates, Swimwear, Vintage Beauty, Accessories and Shoes.
  • Men: Graphic Tees, Tops, Jackets, Bottoms, Shoes, Accessories, Socks + Underwear, Suiting, Vintage and Grooming
  • Homeware: On Campus, Bedding, Furniture, Art + Decor, Rugs + Curtains, Lighting, Kitchen + Bar Bath and Vintage.
  • Lifestyle: Vinyl + Cassettes, Audio, Cameras + Film, Phone + Tech, Books + Stationery, Fun + Games, Pets, Health + Welness and Skateboarding.

The clothing on sale at Urban Outfitters is made up of a mix of globally recognized brands, Urban Outfitters’ own exclusive collections and its pioneering vintage section, called Urban Renewal. The vintage section mixes vintage originals and styles made from recycled or reclaimed materials. All three will be available at the Dubai store.

Stefan Laban promises that in the Dubai store both the product offering and environment will continually change to ensure that there is always something novel.

A Brief Overview on Urban Outfitters

Founded by three students — Richard Hayne, Judy Wicks and Scott Belair — from the University of Pennsylvania, Urban Outfitters formerly called, Free People, was founded in the 1970s in Philadelphia. It was consequent upon an entrepreneurship class project, the first store opening directly opposite the university campus — a place where fellow students could shop.

The name Urban Outfitters replaced Free People in the late 1970s. Free People however became a separate brand, operating under the same umbrella. Today, Urban Outfitters has more than 250 stores across the US, Canada and Europe.

Many international shops, events, restaurants and other businesses — brands if you like — have had at least presence in Dubai. Thus, Urban Outfitters’ opening in Dubai on 5th of September is not entirely a thing of excitement but also of surprise as their opening in the city was tardy.

It seems to be that the management of Urban Outfitters is very careful in expanding as success is paramount. This is manifest in the word of Laban: “We have been exploring Dubai and the UAE for many years, and have seen the consumer evolving;” “We’ve also analysed our e-commerce sales and social media following from the region and believe that now is the time [to have a presence in Dubai].”
